What Is Search Engine Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a process that helps search engines effectively find information online.  Relevant website pages, press releases, blogs, tweets, news and even social media pages are all fodder when an online search is conducted.

It could take a lifetime to really understand the algorithms and nuances related to SEO, so we will only outline some of the basic principles.  We use the Mojo HAT to keep us focused. HAT stands for Honesty, Authenticity and Transparency.  Build and write with HAT as your guiding light and the Search Engines will take care of the rest.

Our hope is that with this information, you can more effectively optimize your business's online campaign.

What Do Search Engines Look For?

It's all about relevance. Use terms you want your business to rank for in the following:

• Titles
• Links
• URL (the actual website address)
• Alt text on photos (read our FAQ's for more on this)
• The main site content, ads, press releases, blogs, etc.

Use Keywords Often...But Not Too Often

Keyword density at it's most basic level is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page.

You want to make sure you're using keywords frequently.
You also want to make sure the content makes sense!
Keep in mind that your customers will be reading this as well.

The key is finding the happy medium where your content makes sense to humans and search engines at the same time.
